Resumo

Feixes de nêutrons térmicos colimados são obtidos a partir de canais de extração de nêutrons em reatores nucleares para diversas aplicações em pesquisa e tecnologia, como técnicas de imagem de nêutrons ou neutrografia. Também foram desenvolvidas configurações práticas para neutrongrafia usando feixes de íons de aceleradores de partículas e fontes radioisotópicas de nêutrons rápidos. No entanto, apenas fontes radioisotópicas permitem sistemas de termalização autônomos e transportáveis que podem produzir feixes colimados de nêutrons térmicos. Este trabalho apresenta os resultados de desempenho de um protótipo de um sistema compacto que gera um feixe colimado de nêutrons térmicos utilizando fontes isotópicas de 241Am-Be de baixa atividade. Ele foi projetado com o auxílio da simulação de Monte Carlo usando o programa PHITS v 3.17. Medidas experimentais da fluência do feixe de nêutrons produzidos pelo protótipo construído mostraram boa concordância com os valores simulados pelo método de Monte Carlo.
