The Brazilian Journal of Radiation Sciences – BJRS
ISSN 2319-061
Focus and Scope
A way to consolidate a radiation protection culture is by establishing adequate and proper communication processes among all the actors involved in radiation protection applications.
In this context, the Brazilian Journal of Radiation Science (BJRS), ISSN 2319-0612, as a Diamond Open Access (DOA) journal, published since 2013 by the Brazilian Radiation Protection Society, an IRPA associate society, aims to disseminate scientific articles on the major disciplines on radiation sciences.
The publisher, the Brazilian Radiation Protection Society – (Sociedade Brasileira de Proteção Radiológica – SBPR - CNPJ 03.967.615/0001-80) is a non profit scientific society also affiliated to SBPC (the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science) and to ABEC (the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors). Through BJRS, it publishes rigorously peer-reviewed scholarly research.
Covering the Biological, Health, Engineering, Exact and Earth areas and even Law (Nuclear Law), the following topics covered by the journal editorial line stand out:
- Biological and Health Effects of Radiation,
- Radiation Protection of Patients, Workers, and Members of the Public,
- Radiation Measurements and Dosimetry,
- International Recommendations and Regulations,
- Protection of the Environment,
- Education and Training,
- Technology and Development,
- Communication with Society,
- Stakeholder Engagement and Involvement,
- Safety Culture and Risk Perception,
- Emergency Preparedness and Response,
- Radioactive Waste Management,
- Safe Transport of Radioactive Materials,
- Nuclear Safety, Safeguards and Security of Radioactive Material and
- Nuclear Law
Open Science
BJRS supports the concept of open science, which seeks to open up the entire research and publication process even further, including open data, open protocols, open code and transparent peer review. However, the opening of the data is conditioned to the authorization of the authors and reviewers involved in a submission.
Indexing
The journal is indexed to REDALYC, DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) and INIS (International Nuclear Information System) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) - https://www.iaea.org/resources/databases/inis), among other databases (Google Scholar, REDIB, DIADORIM).
Science as Global Public Good: Diamond Open Access
BJRS is a DOA Journal (Diamond Open Access) which means that all content is freely available without charge (APC) to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access. Diamond OA (or Platinum OA) is a publishing model where the entire publishing process is funded by non-profit organizations, research institutions, or government agencies; there are no charging fees to authors or readers.
SBPR and BJRS endorse the Manifesto on Science as Global Public Good: Noncommercial Open Access - https://globaldiamantoa.org/manifiesto/ - result of the community reflection while participating in the Global Summit on Diamond Open Access on October 23-27, 2023 in Toluca, Mexico - https:/ /globaldiamantoa.org/pt/home-2-4-5/.
OJS/PKP – CROSSREF/DOI
As part of the community that uses the Open Journal System (OJS/PKP), SBPR is a member of Crossref, assigning DOI (Digital Object Identifier) to all content published in BJRS. Most articles are published in English, all of them are original and, following the trend of open science, with a CC BY license, which permits use, sharing, adaptation, distribution and reproduction in any medium or format, as long as you give appropriate credit to the original author(s) and the source.
QUALIS / CAPES
Being unique in its area and counting on an internationally renowned editorial board, with representation on several continents - https://www.bjrs.org.br/revista/index.php/REVISTA/
about/editorialTeam -, the journal has become essential and well evaluated by various stricto sensu postgraduate programs developed in the country: from a previous A2 classification in Qualis-Periódico (the second best) in the interdisciplinary area, it went to B1 in CAPES' unified Qualis, with Engineering II becoming the mother area.
Frequency
BJRS publishes 4 regular issues per year, under continuous publication. In addition, the journal publishes special issues dedicated to almost all scientific events in the nuclear and related areas held in the country and even abroad, such as:
- IRPA Regional Congress,
- Congresso Latino-Americano de Dosimetria de Estado Sólido e Medições de Radiação,
- Simpósio Latino-Americano sobre Radônio,
- International Nuclear Atlantic Conference – INAC (ENAN e ENFIR)
- International Joint Conference RADIO
- Congresso Brasileiro de Metrologia das Radiações Ionizantes (CBMRI),
- Congresso de Proteção Contra Radiações da Comunidade de Países de Língua Portuguesa.
